San Diego Comic Con Spotlight on Hot Toys and Sideshow

The 2017 San Diego Comic Con kicked off yesterday.

Even if you aren't there (I'm not), you can still ooh and aah over the awesomeness of it thanks to the Internet.

One of the highlights of the show is the Sideshow Collectibles booth.

Not only does Sideshow have their items on display, but they also have Hot Toys figures on display (Sideshow is the U.S. distributor for Hot Toys).

There were several Hot Toys reveals at the booth, including figures from Thor: Ragnarok, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Justice League, Star Wars and Valerian.

Here are some of the highlights:

  • Gladiator Hulk
  • Doctor Strange
  • Luke Skywalker from Return of the Jedi (this is on pace to be one of the best-selling Hot Toys figures for us at Alter Ego)
  • Life-Size Groot

There were also some things that made me chuckle.

Like seeing the same figures on display this year that I saw in person last year...that still haven't been released. This is not a problem specific to Hot Toys, but events like SDCC make it clear just how long some things are in production for.

Where Hot Toys focuses almost exclusively on figures, Sideshow had a wide variety of items on display, including statues, prop replicas, life-size pieces and, of course, figures.

I'm actually more excited for some of the stuff that Sideshow will be releasing.

Highlights include:

  • Avengers Assemble statue collection
  • Batwoman Premium Format Figure
  • Swamp Thing Premium Format Figure
  • Groot Maquette

One of the things that's very clear this year is that Sideshow is doubling down on their Court of the Dead line. Introducing props, "Prestige Statues," life-size pieces and even more Premium Format Figures.

What Hot Toys/Sideshow items are you most looking forward to? Leave your answer in the comments.
