The Devil Is Back —
And So Is His Black Suit
If you haven't been watching Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 on Disney+, now is the time to start. New episodes are dropping every Tuesday through May 5th, and four episodes in, this season is delivering everything longtime fans have been hoping for: brutal street-level action, a politically charged cat-and-mouse story between Matt Murdock and Mayor Wilson Fisk, and the long-awaited return of Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones. The Rotten Tomatoes score is sitting at a well-deserved 95%.
And at the center of all of it is a Daredevil who looks unlike anything we've seen in live action before — fighting in the shadows, literally, with a blacked-out suit straight out of the comics' Shadowland era.
The Shadowland Suit — A Love Letter to Comics Fans
With Mayor Fisk unleashing an all-out manhunt for costumed vigilantes, Matt Murdock does what any seasoned crime fighter would do: he adapts. He sprays a flat black coating over his iconic red suit and the classic DD chest logo, disappearing into the darkness of Hell's Kitchen. It's a survival tactic. It's also one of the most purely comic-book-accurate moments the MCU has given us in years.
"The black suit isn't just a costume change — it's a statement. Matt Murdock isn't hiding. He's hunting."
Long-time readers will immediately recognize the visual callback to the Shadowland storyline, in which Daredevil took over the Hand and ruled Hell's Kitchen from a dark fortress — a version of the character pushed to his moral edge. The show doesn't require you to know any of that to appreciate Season 2, but if you do? Every frame of that black suit hits different.
The season also makes great use of Daredevil's tactical ingenuity. As the battles wear on and the black paint scrapes away during brutal fights, the red suit underneath begins to show through — and the visual storytelling of that deterioration is stunning. It's the kind of detail that only works in live action when you've got the right creative team behind it.
Where We Are in the Season
We're right in the thick of it. Here's the full episode schedule so you can plan your Tuesday nights accordingly:
Episode 5, "The Grand Design," drops this Tuesday the 14th — and with a title like that, it feels like things are about to escalate in a major way. No spoilers here, but Fisk's political machine is only getting stronger, and Matt's alliance of allies in the shadows is being tested.
After the season wraps on May 5th, Marvel follows it immediately with The Punisher: One Last Kill on May 12th — a Special Presentation featuring Jon Bernthal back as Frank Castle. If you've been a fan of this corner of the MCU since the Netflix days, the next few weeks of Tuesdays are going to be very good to you.

Why Daredevil Matters — At a Comic Shop Like Ours
Here at Alter Ego Comics, we've been selling Daredevil comics since 2003. We've watched Matt Murdock go from a cult favorite to a mainstream name, carried by some of the greatest runs in Marvel history — Frank Miller, Brian Michael Bendis, Ed Brubaker, Mark Waid, Chip Kidd. And now, with Charlie Cox bringing him to life on screen, we're watching a whole new generation discover why this character has survived for over 60 years.
If the show has you curious about the comics — and it should — come in and talk to us. We can point you to the runs that influenced Born Again directly, including the Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli classic Daredevil: Born Again (yes, the actual comic), the Bendis/Maleev era, and the Shadowland event that inspired this season's black suit. We keep a great back issue selection and we love matching new fans with the right jumping-on points.
