Today is May the 4th, and if you are a Star Wars fan, you already know what that means. It is the one day a year when the entire galaxy gets to stop and celebrate the saga that changed everything. Here at Alter Ego Comics, we have been celebrating Star Wars for as long as we have been open, and today feels like a particularly special one. So let us take a moment to talk about why this universe still captivates us, what is coming to theaters in just a few weeks, and six extraordinary new Hot Toys figures we just added to the site.
A Galaxy Built Across Generations
One of the things that makes Star Wars so remarkable is that it does not belong to one era. It belongs to all of them.
The original trilogy gave us the foundation: the Rebellion, the Force, the binary sunset on Tatooine. These films introduced an entire generation to the idea that ordinary people could rise to become something extraordinary. Luke Skywalker is, in many ways, the original everyman hero, and those three films still hold up as some of the most thrilling storytelling ever put on screen.
The prequel trilogy deepened the mythology. Whatever you thought of the politics of the Senate, the prequels gave us something the originals could only hint at: the full tragedy of Anakin Skywalker. The fall of the Chosen One, the birth of Darth Vader, the collapse of the Republic, these were stories that made the galaxy feel lived-in and broken in ways the originals could never fully show. And 2025 marked the 20th anniversary of Revenge of the Sith, a film that still lands harder than most people admit.
The sequel trilogy brought new characters into the canon and widened the tent. Meanwhile, the expanded universe of Disney+ series,The Clone Wars, The Mandalorian, Andor, Ahsoka, and now Maul: Shadow Lord, has produced some of the most mature and thoughtful Star Wars storytelling in the franchise's history. The Legends material goes even further, reaching into video game lore, comics, and novels to fill in corners of the galaxy most fans never expected to see brought to life.
Star Wars is not one story. It is a universe of stories, and that is exactly why it endures.
The Mandalorian and Grogu: A New Chapter Begins
Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu hits theaters on May 22, 2026, just a few weeks from now. This is a big deal. The film ends a seven-year absence of Star Wars from movie theaters, and it brings the beloved Clan of Two to the big screen for the first time.
The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin and his young apprentice Grogu.
Pedro Pascal returns as Din Djarin, with the film picking up after the events of The Mandalorian's third season, as Djarin works for the New Republic while combining his bounty hunter skills with doing what he knows is right. Sigourney Weaver joins the cast as Colonel Ward, a New Republic officer who fought in the Rebellion. Jeremy Allen White also appears in the film.
Director Jon Favreau described the film as a "big celebration" of the title characters, and designed the story to be accessible to audiences who have not watched the series. This is Star Wars on the biggest possible canvas. If you have not yet grabbed your tickets, now is the time.
