Where you one of the four or five people who saw Shazam: Fury of the Gods this past weekend? While the sequel is getting a tempered response at the box office, we saw it, and we're here to say that it was, as Larry David would say, pretty, pretty good. Billy Batson and fam definitely charmed the half-packed theater providing us with a zippy narrative featuring equal parts family bonding and banter galore.
The film does an especially great job of paying homage to the Shazam comics with tons of references that may have even slipped past the geek-inclined (was that a "Captain Marvel" joke? Why, yes. It was). CBR is here to save the day with a breakdown of all those Easter eggs and deep cut references including that flaming violin. Obviously, spoiler alert. Proceed with caution.
