Where Do I Start Reading: The Vision

Where Do I Start Reading: The Vision

VisionQuest just premiered on Disney+, with Paul Bettany back as White Vision and James Spader returning as Ultron. If the show has you wondering where to start with Vision in the comics, here are my three picks.

The Visions by Tom King and Gabriel Hernandez Walta

Vision builds himself a synthezoid wife and kids and moves to the suburbs to live a normal life. It does not go well. If the show is asking what makes someone human, this is the comic book version of that question. It is completely self-contained at twelve issues, so you need zero background, and it is one of the most acclaimed comics of the last decade.

Avengers West Coast Epic Collection: Vision Quest

This is literally where the show gets its name. The legendary storyline where Vision is torn apart and rebuilt as the emotionless White Vision, the version Bettany is playing now. But this Epic Collection is much more than that one arc. It is John Byrne's full West Coast Avengers run at 488 pages: the Vision story, Scarlet Witch's descent into darkness and the shocking truth about her children, U.S. Agent forcing his way onto the team, and the debut of the Great Lakes Avengers.

Young Avengers by Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung

The kid in the show is named Thomas Shephard, which points straight at Tommy Shepherd, aka Speed, who debuts here. This is the reincarnation story of Wanda and Vision's twins, so it connects back to WandaVision as well as VisionQuest. It is a modern classic and a great jumping-on point on its own.

You can find all three at the shop, and if we are out of stock we can order them for you. Happy reading!
